Ooops - Angoulême
Yesterday I was in Angoulême for the BD Festival. First time there. It was huge, and one day is definitely not enough to visit the place. I did not plan to buy anything, since I am no great BD lover (unlike others close by who were frantic for hours and hours - and did not even stop to feed themselves).
But, - there is a but - , of couse, I have been weak.
I first stumbled accross prints by Kei Acedera, from Imaginism Studios. And also the book by Bobby Chiu, The perfect bait. Two great artists that I discovered at Galerie Arludik in Paris for the Alice in Wonderland exhibition. Here are my treasures :
I thought I could relax then, but as I strolled around the stand of Peter Maresca, Sunday Press Books, for the second time that day (I tend to be strong in the morning and weak in the afternoon), it happened.
I bought this book :
This is a huge book, both in size and beauty (and price). To give you an idea of the beast hugeness :
These are adult hands.
I am weak.
But I'm very happy.

William Blake - Guest
"If the doors of perception were cleansed everything would appear to man as it is, infinite." W. B.
"The true method of knowledge is experiment." W. B.
"What is now proved was once only imagined." W.B.
"To see a world in a grain of sand and heaven in a wild flower Hold infinity in the palms of your hand and eternity in an hour." W. B.
I recommend the book Burning Bright, by Tracy Chevalier, for a dive in the London of 1792, following two children that inspired their neighbour, a Mr Blake.

The Norse Myths
This week end I went to my favorite spot in Paris, the Shakespeare and Co Bookshop, right beside Notre-Dame-de-Paris. And even though I managed not to buy a whole cupboard of books, I was still too weak to let this escape :

Chinese
These sketches, as well as the previous post (But sir, ... ?), are studies from a Chinese book I bought in Beijing this summer. It is full of amazing traditional paintings in ink. Unfortunately, it is also full of Chinese inscriptions, which I cannot read.
(ps: Each figure is copied from a separate painting)

Omar Rayyan - Guest
First gift of the year, right there in this post. You can admire the enchanting works of Omar Rayyan, an American artist gifted with reptiles, mice and colors (among other numerous qualities), for as long as you wish. A real feast for the eyes.
