One Cover, One Book

   I just finished reading the Neverending Story. I'm not sure why it took me so long to read this classic. Maybe it was because of the only poor image of a giant moving teddy (slightly scary by the way) that arose in my mind each time I heard the title (never seen the movie though).
    Hopefully, my saviour Amazon provided a cheap copy that I bought partly for its cover and partly out of curiosity. And then I just loved the book. It is just so amazingly filled with beautiful and clever ideas, stunning imagination, that I had to drop a word about it here, in case you reader had not yet got through this little gem. I believe the story is a foundation stone of fantasy literature and films, one single concept from this book being enough to create something worth reading/watching. And it is beautifully written.
    I will cut off my praises here (just go, read it !). The other reason for this post being the book cover. I found myself staring at it several times while reading the book. The illustration is by Dan Craig. Never had such magical visions in mind while reading a book, it makes me want to draw. Big challenge though.
   So that's it, enjoy your day ! (and grab that book).

Budapest National Gallery

    I said I would, and then I kind of forgot... Here are some pictures taken last year in Budapest at the National Gallery. Definitely worth a visit. Please forgive the lack of references, you may investigate on the museum website, where many masterpieces are displayed.

Dr Sketchy - Centre Pompidou

Last week another beautiful session of Dr Sketchy took place at Centre Pompidou. A lot of pictures of the event are already visible in the online gallery here, go check the wonderful costumes and models. I was seated in a little room full of colourful works by Kupka, an artist I discovered last year in Vienna (Albertina). Here are some of my drawings. Good day  -

 

Up Sand Down - IF

For Illustration Friday : Fluid.
A funny theme for me as I have been studying fluid mechanics in depth for my studies. I loved thinking back then that everything, earth, metal, air, water, is a fluid, given a correct time scale. Hope you like this drawing, which could be an allegory of time as a fluid. Sounds so serious.

Portrait

     This is a recent painting, or at least a part of it. I don't like the way the eyes turned out, this is why there is only a close up here. Also, I was not so keen on finding my own eyes staring at me in my blog. A bit creepy.

Holidays

   I won't have access to the Internet next week, I'm going home and to the Pyrénées, that is heaven. There are books and chimneys waiting for me...

I've been "dotting" for several evenings... ah, no, there is a word for that actually: stippled drawing.
